How to Use a Pendulum Dowsing Chart: A Beginner's Guide
Share
The pendulum has been a trusted companion for seekers, healers, and dowsers for thousands of years. The Egyptians used it. The ancient Chinese used it. And today, more and more people are rediscovering this elegant tool as a way to access their own intuition and deeper knowing.
If you have just received your first pendulum — or are curious about adding a dowsing chart to your practice — this guide is for you.
What Is a Pendulum, and How Does It Work?
A pendulum is simply a weighted object suspended from a string or chain. When held still, it responds to subtle energy — some say from your own nervous system, some say from the field around us, some say from both. What matters is that it works. Dowsers have used pendulums to find water, locate lost objects, assess energy fields, and support healing practices across every culture on Earth.
A dowsing chart gives structure to the pendulum's responses. Instead of only yes or no, a chart allows you to ask more nuanced questions — about energy levels, frequencies, directions, or specific choices — and receive more detailed answers.
Introducing the Field of Integrity Dowsing Chart
The Field of Integrity chart I designed for GEMAcircle is inspired by the Bovis Biometer — one of the most respected tools in energy measurement. It maps energy fields in layers, with corresponding levels and colour zones, giving you a precise reference for assessing the vitality of spaces, food, water, people, and intentions.
The glass surface makes it smooth and durable for regular use, and the sacred geometry embedded in the design means the chart itself carries a harmonising frequency — it is not just a measuring tool, it is part of your practice.
How to Begin
1. Ground yourself first. Take three slow breaths. Feel your feet on the floor. Set a clear intention: I am open to receiving accurate, honest guidance.
2. Hold the pendulum lightly between your thumb and forefinger, chain resting over your fingertip. Keep your elbow soft, your arm steady.
3. Establish your baseline. Ask a question you know the answer to — something simple and true. Notice which direction the pendulum moves. This is your "yes." Then ask something false and notice the movement. This is your "no."
4. Use the chart. Hold the pendulum over the centre of the chart and ask your question clearly. Allow the pendulum to swing freely toward the zone that answers you. Do not try to control it — your job is to hold still and observe.
5. Record your findings. Over time, patterns emerge. The more you practice, the more accurate and refined your connection becomes.
A Note on Trust
The pendulum reflects your own inner knowing back to you. It is not magic — or rather, it is the very ordinary magic of the body and field responding to truth. Be patient with yourself. Be honest in your questions. And most importantly, approach your practice with the same openness you would bring to any form of meditation or contemplation.
The field of integrity is not something outside of you. It is something you remember.
